AX 2009- Day 1 P1 [Yun Kouga Q&A]

This year’s Anime Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center was intense. Not only was there a screening of Evangelion 1.0, there was a screening of an unreleased DVD of the making of Gurren Lagann. There was a VOCALOID panel, showcasing Doujinshi works based on Hatsune Miku, and the other characters. Introduction on how to use Z-Brush, for the 3D artists out there. Many of you studying Japanese may find interesting on discovering how to make money off translation. If you couldn’t make it to Anime Expo 2009, don’t worry! We’ve got you covered.

Nintendo DS Eroge

Wow, really? You might be saying.

Nintendo’s always had one hell of a strict policy with the content of the games released for their consoles. However, they’ve been getting flexible throughout the years, starting with Mortal Kombat for the NES.

DS Eroge

That’s right. A doujin game about tentacle rape has been developed for the DS. It’s called ハーフエルフ触手陵辱DS / Half-Elf Tentacle Assault DS. It was designed for release at the next Comiket, however, the result was an epic fail. It’s really not surprising, though! Nintendo’s really serious about these things.

初音ミク Hatsune Miku

Hatsune Miku is a masterpiece created by the Yamaha Corporation, a Japanese company that’s been around for over 120 years, and designed by artist Kei. Their products are seen everywhere, and they kick ass. Instruments, synthesizers, motorcycles, speakers, watercraft, ATV’s, computer stuff. I have an electrical guitar and a few speakers by Yamaha. They’re awesome.

Now, Yamaha teamed up with Crypton to create something completely different. It’s called VOCALOID and it’s been out since 2004. Think of it as Garageband for the Mac, except instead of working with instruments, you work with computer voices sampled from actual Japanese singers. In short, VOCALOID is like Garageband for Otakus. =]
